Professor Antonio Estella de Noriega recently presented his lecture "The Legal Foundations of European Economic Governance” as part of the International Law Lecture Series, an ongoing series that promotes debate and shares ideas on current legal topics in the areas of international and comparative law and is sponsored by Miami Law’s International Graduate Law Programs.
“Professor Estella used his theory of “Law as Credibility” to explain the changes in bail-out rules after the crisis and the completion of several bail-outs to countries in the Eurozone and outside of the Euro area,” said Carmen Perez-Llorca, director of the International Graduate Law Programs. “The lecture covered aspects of European Economic Governance both from a legal and an economic perspective, and Professor Estella suggested an alternative approach to correct economic problems and bring excessive deficits or debts of member countries back to safe levels.”
Antonio Estella de Noriega is an Associate Professor of Administrative Law and Jean Monnet Professor "ad personam" of Law and European Economic Governance at Carlos III University, Madrid, Spain. He has recently published on the concept of “Law as Credibility,” on the issues related to a Member State's potential exit from the Eurozone and on the new ECB banking supervisory role. His book, The Legal Foundations of European Economic Governance, which he discussed during the lecture, will be published by Cambridge University Press at the end of 2016.
